On Friday 2nd February 4 French students
from the Lycée Amiral Ronarc’h in Brest, France were welcomed to the
area By Councillor Willie Clarke at a reception held in the Down
Patrick centre. The four students were participating in the first stage
of a work experience exchange programme organised in partnership by
Shimna Integrated College, the Lycée Amiral Ronarc’h, Down District
Council and local businesses. Three Shimna College students will
complete the exchange when they travel to Brest, next week to carry out
their own work experience in French primary schools. They will stay with
their host families and follow a programme organised by English teacher
Florence Mahieux-Michaud. This initiative is the first of an exciting
series of programmes which will enable Shimna College students to
complete their work experience abroad.
“We hope to develop and foster this link which
allows students to perfect their language skills through total
immersion, gain vocational experience and increase cultural awareness.”
